The food is super flavorful and the portions are pretty big. I definitely recommend this place instead of the countless and tasteless Salvadoran-Mexican restaurants around the DC area. Go for this tasty Chapín restaurant with the friendly staff and you won't be disappointed!

Food is great (especially the papusas) and service is pretty good. Helps to know Spanish for sure, at least on the bar side.

Ordered Take out . The food is good but kinda Pricey . I just liked the Chorizo and the refried beans . The rest of the platter is really just regular grilled chicken , pork and beef .

Probably some of the most authentic Guatemalan food I've had outside of Guatemala. The restaurant itself is kind of tucked away inside an unassuming shopping center and with a name like Tikal Bakery, you wouldn't really expect this place to offer anything but bread. While they do have a running bakery, they also offer a wide selection of hispanic food options. I ended up ordering steak fajitas which came out hot and sizzling with 3 tortillas, guacamole, mashed beans, lettuce, sour cream and sautéed peppers and onions. The meat was seasoned deliciously and cooked very well, making it very flavorful. Overall, the meal itself was absolutely delicious and pretty affordable. I believe I paid about $10-12 for mine which, in comparison with some of the other restaurants in the area, is pretty reasonable. I will say, the restaurant feels a little sketchy. Not that there's anything wrong happening inside it, but it's a little dirty, dimly lit and just feels kind of run down. If you've ever been to an authentic restaurant in a hispanic country like Guatemala or Cuba, it feels very similar to that. Our service was pretty good, though we were one of only three parties in the restaurant, so they weren't particularly busy. I'll also mention that our waiter didn't speak great English. This wasn't a problem and we were able to communicate everything we wanted without a problem, but things could get difficult if you needed to make more complicated edits to your order. Other than that, I really enjoyed my experience here. I have some friends from Guatemala and they say this is, without a doubt, the most authentic Guatemalan restaurant in the area and it's definitely worth checking out.
